Next Gen for Fifth Grade scientists:
Fifth grade students focus on connecting matter and energy flows and cycles to their effect on systems of different scales. Students develop concrete foundational knowledge regarding earth, space, ecological, physical, and technological systems. Students explore cycles of the Earth, moon, and sun. Students consider how matter and energy cycle between all the systems on Earth and how matter is cycled through an ecosystem.
Students will participate in STEM science activities such as building a Newton car, making a catapult, and designing a Rube Goldberg machine.

The Fifth grade curriculum includes work with large, complex numbers and understanding fractions and percentages. They also start to apply the math skills they have learned in order to solve real world situations involving money, time, and measurement. We will continue work on solving more difficult word problems and building on previous skills while learning new skills.

In 5th grade, our curriculum includes many topics that help us prepare for Middle School.

In Language Arts, we expand our vocabulary, grammar and reinforce our reading skills.. Fifth-grade students will develop comprehension and text analysis skills. They apply these skills in increasingly complex text they read on a daily basis. It is essential for all students to read often during and beyond the school day. Students will also write frequently and produce writing process papers for all types of writing (narrative, expository, persuasive, and technical). With frequent writing, students gain many opportunities to apply the grammar and conventions skills they are learning.
