Middle School7th and 8th Grade students meet twice a month on scheduled Mondays from 6:00-8:00 P.M. September-April. All class sessions meet in St. John’s School. A syllabus giving an overview of the program for a specific grade level is given to each student at his/her first class. It lists the schedule of dates class is in session and reflects the central topic to be addressed for the day. The middle school years are focused on developing a personal relationship with Jesus and preparing for the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Candidates who have demonstrated their desire for the sacrament by their participation in the Confirmation program and by their attitude, celebrate the sacrament in their freshman year in high school. 7th Graders study the New Testament in an effort to more fully understand who Jesus is and how He is present in their lives today. Candidates are expected to attend any activities scheduled outside their class times that pertain to Confirmation preparation such as a Mass of Enrollment and a Sunday retreat day. 8th Graders focus on the Sacrament of Confirmation in order that they may better understand the power of the Spirit in their lives and their responsibilities as confirmed Catholics. Candidates are expected to attend any activities scheduled outside their class times that pertain to Confirmation preparation such as completion of service hours, a saint’s report, and attendance at an 8th grade retreat day and candidate/sponsor dinner. Middle School students gather in church during class time for a variety of prayer experiences such as guided meditation, the rosary, the Stations of the Cross, silent prayer walking the labyrinth, Adoration and Benediction, and the year- end celebration of Mass. During Advent and Lent the Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated.
