Grades K-6Sessions for Grades 1-6 meet on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:30 P.M. and Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30 P.M. and 6:00-7:30 P.M. Kindergarten sessions are offered as needed. Sessions average three times per month September-April. A syllabus giving an overview of the program for a specific grade level is given to each child at his/her first class. It lists the schedule of dates class is in session and reflects the central topic to be addressed for the day. Children in Grades 1-6 study Scripture and the Sacraments as well as the Commandments and the Beatitudes. Special attention is paid to the early Church, and the Mass, especially in second grade. Common prayers central to our Catholic faith such as the Creed and the rosary are studied for their meaning and memorization. Children also form a small prayer community within their classroom as well as a larger community when all grade levels gather in the church for Prayer Services throughout the year. Those children who have celebrated their First Eucharist attend Reconciliation Services during Advent and Lent. Our Third Graders lead the parish community in praying The Stations of the Cross on Good Friday. All class sessions are held in St. John’s School. The textbook used for Grades K-6 is FAITH FIRST published by RCL Benzinger. Parents and children can visit our text book publisher’s website for information, games, puzzles, and visual tours. Go to www.faithfirst.com and follow the prompts for fun activities that reinforce the values of Christian living. Schedule / Syllabus
